Hello once again from Ear 2 Ear Headsets. Today we are going to talk about the different styles and types of headsets available for phones, computers, and other communication devices.
Monaural: The prefix root word is from the latin mono, meaning “one” or “single”. In this case, a one-ear headset. This type of phone headset has one speaker by which the headset wearer hears his/her own voice and the voice on the other end of the conversation. Monaural telephone headsets come in a variety of styles, too. Most common are the over-the-ear style, in which the headset speaker rests comfortably outside the ear canal and is cushioned by foam, leather, or vinyl. The speaker on the phone headset is supported by either a headband, which fits over your head, or by an ear loop which fits snuggly around your ear. Also available are in-the-ear speakers, which many wearers prefer. They are supported by the same means.
Binaural: From the latin for “two” or “pair” meaning two speakers. By far the most popular style of headset for call centers, telemarketers, etc. They generally block out more ambient noise and afford the wearer better listening ability. Unless they are stereo speakers, the wearer will experience mono, but in both ears. The speakers are usually supported by either a headband or an under-the-chin support. Also available are ear buds, which fit snuggly in the ear and are connected via separate wires than conjoin at or near the wearers breast bone area or higher.
